Ghorayebah (Biscuits for Eid)

    A traditional Sudanese biscuit usually served during the muslim Eid celebration, ghorayebah is a quick and easy sweet treat made with ghee.

    Serves: 30 

    • 125g icing sugar
    • 235ml ghee (clarified butter)
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 250g plain flour, or as needed
    • 30 whole cloves

    1. Preheat oven to 150 C / Gas 2.
    2. Mix icing sugar and ghee together until creamy; stir in vanilla extract and baking powder. Add flour in small batches until dough is thickened and combined.
    3. Roll dough into walnut-size balls and place 5cm apart onto baking trays. Flatten slightly and press a clove into the centre.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven until ivory in colour, 10 to 20 minutes. Cool on the trays for 10 minutes, before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely, about 10 to 20 minutes.
