Apple crumble with oat crumble topping

    Tasty hearty winter food. Crumble is one of my favourite desserts and for me it's important that there's a good amount of topping. In this recipe I've added rolled oats and cinnamon to the crumble.

    Serves: 4 

    • 270g light brown soft sugar
    • 6 Bramley apples - peeled, cored and roughly chopped
    • 100g plain flour
    • 120g cold unsalted butter, cubed
    • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 80g rolled oats
    • 3 teaspoons demerara sugar

    1. In a saucepan add 150g of the sugar and apples and cook for 10 minutes over medium heat.
    2. In a large bowl mix the remaining 120g sugar with the flour, butter and cinnamon. Rub together with your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add the oats and mix.
    3. Pour the apples into a baking dish and cover with the crumble topping. Sprinkle the demerara sugar over the top.
    4. Bake in a preheated 200 C / 180 C Fan / Gas 6 oven for about half an hour or so, till topping is golden.
