Maple syrup tart

    Maple syrup tart is a classic sweet treat from Quebec. It couldn't be easier to make, especially with good quality shop-bought pastry. For added crunch, add 60 to 80g of pecan halves or walnuts!

    Serves: 8 

    • 1 (23cm) shortcrust pastry case
    • 1 tablespoon plain flour
    • 240ml maple syrup
    • 1 egg, beatten
    • 1 tablespoon single cream

    1. Place flour in a bowl; gradually whisk in the maple syrup, to avoid lumps. Add egg and cream; mix well. Pour into the unbaked pastry case.
    2. Bake in a preheated 180 C / Gas 4 oven until pastry is golden and centre is set, approximately 45 minutes. Cover pastry with aluminium foil if it browns too quickly.
