Pear tart with crumble topping

    1 hour 30 min

This is our family's recipe for fresh pear pie topped with a brown sugar crumble. Serve it cool or warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Using freshly-grated nutmeg will make a difference.

    1 person made this

    Serves: 8

    • 6 large pears, peeled and sliced
    • 1 lemon, juiced
    • 135g caster sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
    • 115g butter
    • 70g soft brown sugar
    • 125g plain flour
    • 1 (23cm) unbaked pastry case

    Prep:45min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Ready in:1hr30min

    1. Preheat oven to 230 C / Gas 8.
    2. Sprinkle pears with lemon juice in a bowl. Mix caster sugar and nutmeg in a separate small bowl; sprinkle over pears and mix thoroughly.
    3. Rub butter, brown sugar and flour together in a bowl until mixture resembles crumbs. Spoon pear mixture into pastry case; sprinkle crumble mixture on top.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 180 C / Gas 4; bake until filling is bubbling and crumble topping is lightly browned, about 35 more minutes.

This was the absolute best recipe!! I followed the recipe exactly, did not change a thing, and it came out wonderful! The crumb crust was delicious. This is a pie that I will make again! A definite keeper!  -  09 Oct 2013  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

Used pears and apples since I didn't have enough pears. Added some lemon preserves to the fruit mixture for added flavor and added chopped pecans to the topping. Very flavorful. Only complaint is that it was too juicy. Next time I'll add corn starch to the fruit mixture.  -  15 Nov 2016  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
