This 'made-from-scratch' eggnog recipe calls for heating the eggs and sugar, then adding milk, vanilla extract and nutmeg. You then heat the mixture until it thickens and chill it to make it into a dessert.
Place the eggs and sugar into a pan; whisk until light coloured and frothy. Whisk in 500ml of milk until thoroughly blended. Place the pan over medium heat, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a wooden spoon, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to stand 5 minutes.
Stir in the remaining milk, vanilla extract and nutmeg. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
