Tasty Hungarian Goulash

    1. This recipe is exactly the same as the Hungarian Goulash that I tasted in Budapest. Fantastic! Absolutely love it!

    4 people made this

    • 600g stewing steak (4 persons)
    • Oil for frying
    • 2 medium onions
    • 1 or 2 carrots diced
    • 2 cloves of garlic grated
    • 1 parsnip
    • 2 sticks of celery
    • 500g tin of chopped tomatoes
    • 2 green peppers ( or a green and red one)
    • 1 large sweet potato diced
    • 1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
    • 1 teaspoon of ground caraway seeds
    • 1 bay leaf
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • As much water as required to fill your saucepan (with a beef stock cube)
    • 1 or 2 leeks
    • A handful of lentils

    1. 1. Heat up the oil or lard in a pot and braise the chopped onions in it until they get a nice golden brown. Add the stewing steak and fry until the meat is brown. Add the grated garlic caraway seeds and paprika and fry for a few minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients and the water and cook for about an hour until all veggies are cooked. You may want to thicken the goulash at the end with some cornflour.

Fantastic! Best Goulash I have ever tasted. Equally as good as the one I tried in Budapest!  -  19 Jan 2017
