Kevs Nacho Cheese Sauce

    My British recipe for an American style delicious nacho cheese sauce

    Ingredients

    • Heaped teaspoon of plain flour
    • 3/4 cup of semi skimmed milk
    • Half a teaspoon of salt
    • Half a teaspoon of ground turmeric (makes it nice and yellow)
    • 6 or 7 slices of processed cheese (i use Tesco own brand cheese singles)
    • Heaped teaspoon of butter

    Method

    1. Start with getting a saucepan hot on a medium heat on the hob and add the butter until it is melted
    2. Once butter is melted add the heaped teaspoon of flour and stir until the mixture looks like the thickness of soup, not too runny and not too thick
    3. Once you have a nice thickness that is easy to stir next add the milk and stir until the butter mixture is combined with the milk and you can no longer see the butter floating in the milk, the milk should also be thick but only slightly
    4. Next tear up the cheese slices and put them in the mixture and continue to stir until everything has melted in the milk mixture
    5. Add the turmeric at any point after you add the cheese, i usually do it a couple of minutes after adding the cheese slices, and stir
    6. Serve like i do with oven heated tortilla chips, what i do is buy a bag of lightly salted tortilla chips and fill up a pizza tray with them and heat in the oven at 160 for about 4 minutes
