Steak and Potato pie


    Home made steak and potato pie that you can adjust to your own individual tastes.

    • 2 x lean steaks ( cheap steaks will do )
    • 3 x medium potatoes ( peeled, diced,and part boiled)
    • 3/4pt beef stock
    • 1/4pt red wine
    • 3 x medium shallots ( chopped into large pieces )
    • 1 x tbs plain flour ( seasoned with salt & pepper )
    • splash Worcestershire sauce
    • fresh Basil, Parsley, Rosemary
    • Oil for frying
    • Puff pastry ( I bought Morrison's frozen )
    • Heat oven to 150 degrees c, gas mark 2.


    1. Dice steak into bite size pieces.
    2. Heat oil in pan and add the diced steaks.
    3. Fry on low/medium heat until all sides have been browned,
    4. Add shallots to pan and further fry for about 2-3 minutes,
    5. Add the herbs and splash Worcestershire sauce and fry 1 minute.
    6. Then add the flour and stir all ingredients so coated in the flour and cook out for about 1-2 minutes.
    7. Then add the stock and red wine and potatoes and simmer until you reach the constituency you prefer.
    8. Transfer to an oven dish and cover with the pastry. pierce a hold in the middle of the pastry for air release.
    9. Put into middle of the oven and cook for around 50 minutes or until golden brown.


    Nice served with mashed potatoes and mushy pies. You could if you wish and vegetables to the pie when you add the potatoes to make this a meal in one.
