Ketogenic hamburger buns


    These low carb gluten free hamburger buns are made with ground almonds, coconut flour and flax seed.

    • 75g finely ground almonds
    • 30g coconut flour
    • 35g ground flax seed
    • 20g psyllium husk powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste
    • untoasted sesame seeds for sprinkling
    • 3 egg whites
    • 1 whole egg
    • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
    • 235ml lukewarm water


    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Add ground almonds to a mixing bowl. Add coconut flour, ground flax seed, psyllium husk powder, onion powder, baking powder and salt. Mix together.
    3. In a separate mixing bowl, add 3 egg whites and 1 whole egg. Add vinegar and mix well.
    4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix well. Add the water. Blend with an electric mixer until you get a dough like consistency.
    5. Divide the dough into into equal parts and place on a baking tray. Shape into buns and sprinkle with sesame.
    6. Bake until golden brown, about 50 minutes.


    Do not substitute egg whites with liquid egg whites from a carton.

    They tasted wonderful but mine were full of air holes. Not sure where I went wrong. But great to use as burger buns when grilling.  -  03 Mar 2019  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
