Making your own blackcurrant liqueur is very little work, all it needs it patience.

Ingredients
Makes: 1 500ml bottle
500g blackcurrants
500ml high-percentage vodka
1 dried mace blade
2 whole clove
1/2 cinnamon stick
500g granulated sugar

Crush half of the currants and leave the rest intact. Place in a jar together with the vodka and the spices. Let sit for 2 weeks at a dark place.
Put the sugar in a saucepan with 250ml water. Bring to the boil and stir well. Strain through a sieve lined with fine muslin or cheesecloth. Fill into bottles and cork.
