    Making your own blackcurrant liqueur is very little work, all it needs it patience.

    Makes: 1 500ml bottle

    • 500g blackcurrants
    • 500ml high-percentage vodka
    • 1 dried mace blade
    • 2 whole clove
    • 1/2 cinnamon stick
    • 500g granulated sugar

    1. Crush half of the currants and leave the rest intact. Place in a jar together with the vodka and the spices. Let sit for 2 weeks at a dark place.
    2. Put the sugar in a saucepan with 250ml water. Bring to the boil and stir well. Strain through a sieve lined with fine muslin or cheesecloth. Fill into bottles and cork.


    Mace can be found in Asian markets.
