Carving a shark from a watermelon is not difficult if you follow these instructions with images. An oval shaped watermelon works best.

    1. Cut off one end of the watermelon so it can stand firmly on its own.
    2. Cut out a large triangle from the front of the melon for the mouth.
    3. Make a cut all around the mouth line about 1cm from the edge.
    4. Carefully remove the rind from this narrow strip using a small knife.
    5. Remove the watermelon pulp with a small spoon or a melon baller. Set the melon balls to the side in a bowl.
    6. Carve out teeth about 1cm long using a small knife.
    7. If by mistake you cut off an extra piece or cut into the lower skin, you can patch it by reattaching the piece with a toothpick.
    8. Cut a triangular piece from the back of the watermelon and attach it with a toothpick to make the back fin.
    9. For the eyes cut out 2 circles of lemon peel. Attach them with toothpicks and place 2 blueberries on top to make the pupils.
    10. Cover a large plate with coloured paper (use regular coloured paper and cut it to the required shape) and cover with cling wrap. Place the shark in the centre of the plate.
    11. Scatter the blueberries around the shark and put the melon balls back in the cavity.
