Rumkugeln (German chocolate rum balls)

    There are many different variations of these traditional German Christmas sweets but they always contain one key ingredient: rum.

    • 100g ground nuts
    • 100g icing sugar
    • 100g dark chocolate, grated
    • 1 egg yolk
    • 2 tablespoons rum
    • To decorate
    • chocolate or coloured sugar sprinkles, flaked or chopped almonds

    Method

    1. Mix nuts, icing sugar, chocolate, egg yolk and rum till evenly moistened. Take walnut-sized pieces and shape into balls.
    2. Roll in chocolate sprinkles or other decoration of your choice. Place in small paper cases and store in the fridge.
