Slow cooker apple butter

    This is autumn on a spoon, the ultimate autumn spread! Put it on toast, crumpets, pancakes, ice cream- plus your house will smell amazing while you're making this.

    Serves: 12 

    • 6 Bramley or Granny Smith apples, or a mix of cooking and eating apples
    • 1 1/2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice (see footnote) or mixed spice
    • 200g caster or granulated sugar

    1. Peel, core, and finely dice apples. Then pop all the ingredients into your slow cooker, and give it a quick mix.
    2. Cook in a slow cooker for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low. Then cook for an additional 4 hours on high, stirring occasionally.
    3. Once thick and rich the apple butter is ready. Fill into sterilised jars and store in a cook dark place.
