Simple baked apples

    This was my favourite dessert my mom made when I was little. Its easy and delicious, perfect way to use up extra apples in autumn.

    Serves: 4 

    • 4 medium or 6 small apples
    • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon mixed spice
    • sugar or honey to taste
    • 150ml hot water

    1. Pre-heat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Core and peel apples but leave them whole.
    3. Mix all the other ingredients together and place in a baking dish.
    4. Roll apples in the liquid before placing them upright in the dish. Bake until tender, 45 to 50 minutes. During baking check regularly and roll in the liquid if needed. Serve with custard.


    You can also fill the core with raisins and bake the apples on on their side.
