Homemade hot chilli sauce

    This a quick and easy hot sauce made with tinned tomatoes, jalapeno peppers and garlic. You can char-grill the jalapeno peppers before blending if you like a smoky flavour. You'll need to add some of the jalapeno pepper seeds if you want it to be spicy!

    Serves: 16 

    • 2 jalapeno peppers
    • 2 (400g) tins plum tomatoes in juice
    • 1 slice onion
    • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt

    1. Remove the stems from the jalapeno peppers and the seeds from one jalapeno. Place both jalapeno peppers, tomatoes with liquid, onion, garlic, cumin, oregano and salt in a blender; pulse to desired consistency. Serve or store in an airtight container or jar in the fridge.

    Made this for the Recipe Swap! Very good sauce. I did double the jalapeno and I ended up needing more salt, so added my favorite seasoning blend(garlic/onion/salt/black pepper), but it sure is easy and great to have for folks to have a place to start.     Not spicy or hot as all. Tastes like slightly flavoured tomato sauce. I added a lot more onion and garlic as well as a bit of vinegar and used 6 Jalepeno's and 2 Habanero's to spice it up a bit.
