Crispy tofu bites

    These crispy bites of tofu with a crunchy exterior and a creamy interior are perfect for serving with Thai peanut sauce or teriyaki sauce.

    Serves: 3 

    • 350g extra firm tofu
    • 125g self-raising flour
    • 2 tablespoons cornflour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, or as needed

    1. Drain tofu by placing it on a plate and stacking heavy plates on top of it to drain any extra moisture, at least 15 minutes. Slice into 24 bite-size pieces.
    2. Combine flour, cornflour, salt and pepper in a large resealable food bag. Toss tofu into bag, seal completely and shake to coat. Transfer tofu pieces to a plate, shaking off any excess flour.
    3. Pour vegetable oil into a pan; heat on medium-high until just smoking. Cook tofu, turning often, until golden brown on all sides, about 5 minutes per side.


    When frying the tofu, take care not to crowd the pan; you may need to cook in two batches.
