    Gingerbread house I love making for my family. You need a house stencil/cutters for this recipe.

    Makes: 1 gingerbread house

    • 250g butter
    • 200g dark muscovado sugar
    • 7 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 600g plain flour
    • 2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
    • 4 teaspoon ground ginger
    • For the icing
    • 300g icing sugar
    • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
    • 2 egg whites
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

    1. Melt butter, sugar and syrup in a pan till all melted.
    2. In a bowl mix flour, bicarbonate of soda and ground ginger.
    3. Stir in melted butter syrup mix into the flour mix. When all is mixed well so you can not see any flour, wrap in cling film chill for 1 hour.
    4. Preheat your oven to 220 C / 200 C fan / Gas 7.
    5. Cut your house shapes and put on a lined tray. Bake until golden, about 12 minutes, then let cool.
    6. For the glue icing, whisk egg whites and icing sugar and cream of tartar vanilla till thick. If it is not thick add more icing sugar.
    7. Build your house by putting the walls together first, leave it for 1 hour to set. Then add the roof. Decorate it as you like.
