Kebab shop salad

    This is a recipe for the great tasting cabbage salad you have with your doner kebab from the takeaway, recreated in you own home to serve with grilled meats. Kebab shop salad is also great on burgers. I recreated this after not wanting to always go to the takeaway to get this great healthy salad and everyone loves it.

    • 3 teaspoons dried mint
    • 6 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 lemon, squeezed
    • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon caster sugar
    • salt and pepper
    • 1/4 head red cabbage
    • 1/4 head white cabbage
    • 1 onion
    • 1 carrot


    1. Place the mint, olive oil, lemon juice, white vinegar, , sugar, salt and pepper into a clean jam jar and shake.
    2. Finely shred your cabbage, onion and carrot and place in a bowl.
    3. Taste the dressing to ensure it has some balance in flavour, adjust accordingly. Pour dressing over cabbage, ensuring all the cabbage and onion are coated in the dressing.
    4. Leave in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. The flavour of the cabbage will change as it marinates in the fridge.


    For a variation add 1 teaspoon dried oregano.
