Creamy sauce for meatballs

    A quick recipe for a creamy sauce to serve with meatballs and mashed potato.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 teaspoon butter
    • 1 teaspoon vegetable (rapeseed) oil
    • 1 small onion, very finely chopped
    • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
    • 2 teaspoon cornflour
    • 150ml whole milk
    • 150ml beef stock
    • pinch of salt and pepper

    1. Add the butter and oil to a pan and allow the butter to melt over a medium heat.
    2. Add the onion to the pan and cook until they start to soften, about 5 minutes.
    3. Add the garlic to the pan and cook for about 2 minutes, don't let the garlic burn.
    4. In a separate jug mix the corn flour with a small amount of the milk until it forms a smooth paste. Top up with the rest of the milk and the stock then add to the pan.
    5. Turn up the heat a little and allow the mixture to simmer gently until the sauce thickens, 5 to 10 minutes.
    6. Check the seasoning and add salt and pepper to taste.
