Mulled white wine

    I prefer to make mulled wine with white wine because I think it gives a smoother flavour. This recipe has a little rum added at the end for a bit of a kick!

    Serves: 6 

    • 1L white wine
    • 550ml apple juice
    • zest of 1 lemon, cut in a spiral
    • 3cm fresh ginger, sliced
    • 50g caster sugar, or more to taste
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 6 tablespoons rum

    1. Combine white wine, apple juice, lemon zest, ginger, sugar and cinnamon stick in a saucepan and heat slowly, but do not boil. Leave for 1 hour on low heat so it can infuse.
    2. Pour warm mulled wine through a small sieve into heatproof glasses and add a tablespoon rum to each.
