Tikka masala fish curry

    This is a Indian fish curry that uses mackerel but you could use any other rich and oily fish and it will be just as good.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
    • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
    • 3 shallots, finely chopped
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic-ginger paste
    • 3 green chillies, sliced in half
    • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
    • 2 tablespoons masala spice mix
    • 250ml water
    • salt, to taste
    • 600g mackerel, cut into bite sized pieces
    • 1 mango, diced
    • 2 sprigs curry leaves, optional

    1. Heat coconut oil in a heavy saucepan; add the mustard seeds and fry until they start to pop. Add shallots, garlic-ginger paste and green chillies. Fry until the shallots are starting to brown.
    2. Stir in turmeric and masala spice mix; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Add water and season to taste with salt. When it comes to the boil, add mackerel, mango and curry leaves. Cover and cook over low heat for 10 minutes.
