About this recipe: This recipe comes from my mother-in-law and she always made them for Passover to help cub our cravings for bread. They are delicious!


Serves: 4 

  • 150g (5 oz) matzo meal
  • 350ml (12 fl oz) boiling water
  • 120ml (4 fl oz) vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs, beaten

  1. Preheat oven to 190 C / Gas 5. Grease a baking tray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine matzo meal, water, oil, sugar and salt. Mix well then let mixture cool.
  3. Add eggs to the mixture. Drop mix in rounded tablespoons onto the prepared tray.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for one hour, checking to make sure they are golden brown and firm.
