Crunchy oat granola

    Homemade granola is budget friendly and contains much less sugar that store bought granola. You can add other ingredients such as wheat germ, other nuts or dried fruit.

    Makes: 1 Blech Müsli

    • 250g roiled porridge oats
    • 50g raw sunflower seeds
    • 40g chopped almonds
    • 40g chopped walnuts
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 35g light brown soft sugar
    • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
    • 2 tablespoons honey
    • 100ml vegetable oil
    • 1 heaped teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

    1. Preheat your oven to 100 C / Gas 1/4. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
    2. In a bowl mix oats, sunflower seeds, almonds and walnuts.
    3. Add salt, sugar, maple syrup, honey, oil, cinnamon and vanilla to a saucepan. Bring to the boil over medium heat then pour over the oat mixture and stir well to combine. Distribute evenly on the baking tray.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Turn after 20 minutes and bake for a further 25 minutes. Turn off your oven and leave granola to sit in the residual heat. Remove baking tray from the oven and let cool and firm up for a couple of hours. Brake up clusters with your hands and store in a jar or a tin with a tight fitting lid.
