In a large bowl, beat the butter with an electric mixer until creamy. Add the rest of the ingredients, except the milk, and beat on high speed until smooth and fluffy. Add the milk only if the icing is too stiff.
I chose this recipe because both pictures show a smooth and glossy chocolate icing and that was what I needed. Unfortunately, it wasn't either. It tasted fine of course but it was not a bit like the icing in the picture.
I wanted to make this for the filling for the One Bowl Chocolate Cake - was a bit disappointed when it turned out a pale mocha colour but it tasted great. So I put it between 2 layers of chocolate cake and left it for a bit. I have to have my chocolate cake hot so I later heated up and to my amazement & delight, the icing turned to a darker more chocolatey/fudge icing in the microwave - even more gorgeous!!! So if you make this recipe, be sure to HEAT IT UP if you can!!! Heaven!!!
I was looking for an easy chocolate icing and decided to try this one. I made it and thought it looked nothing like the picture, it looked more like buttercream icing. I tasted it and wow utterly gorgeous! I used it to decorate some fairy cakes for the kids, those fairy cakes were gone on the same day! It makes a good quantity too so goes quite far! I am using this icing for my easter cakes its that nice.
