The great thing about tomato based sauces is that if it lacks punch, simply add another spoon of tomato puree to kick the flavour up a dial. This is especially true if you use the cheaper economy branded tinned tomatoes - just add a bit more puree to taste. Also, try to avoid crushing the garlic in a press. Finely chopping it for some reason ensures a stronger (don't worry - not overpowering) garlic flavour!

Was looking for a home made bolognese recipe to try as I've been finding jarred versions quite sickly. Adapted this tonight for my partner and I and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will use this again next week when I cook for father's day - 08 Jun 2014
