About this recipe: A very tasty, hearty and rich flavoured meal, great with rice or crusty bread, a bottle of wine or a beer! Make in advance to improve the flavours.

Serves: 6 

  • 1 large Spanish or red onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 500g steak mince
  • 2 teaspoons hot chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (400g) tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1 small jar tomato and basil pasta sauce
  • 4 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 250g mushrooms, sliced

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:1hr15min  ›  Ready in:1hr25min 

  1. Gently fry the onion and garlic together till onion is soft, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add mince, spices and seasoning and continue to fry until meat turns brown.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, pasta sauce, chilli sauce and sugar. Simmer covered for 30 minutes.
  4. Add mushrooms and simmer for a further 45 minutes. Best served in a bowl with crusty bread.
