Spicy Garlic and Chilli Prawns

About this recipe: A delicious spicy king prawn dish bursting with flavour. High in protein and packed with chilli to boost your metabolism. Best served with white/brown rice or noodles.

Serves: 4 

  • 10 - 15 king prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 3/4 tablespoon of chilli flakes
  • 3 limes, zested and juiced
  • 2 oranges, zested and juiced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
  • pinch of salt

  1. Use a blender/food processor and combine the orange juice, zest, lime juice, zest, chilli flakes, olive oil, garlic and salt. Mix until smooth.
  2. Place prawns in a bowl, and pour the citrus marinade over them. Let them marinate for 20 minutes at room temperature.
  3. Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the prawns for about 3 minutes per side until opaque. Spoon a little of the marinade in for extra flavour whilst cooking the prawns.

Used different ingredients. I used a small fresh red chilli, without the seeds, instead of the dried chilli - 21 Jan 2009


For me this recipe had a really nice kick behind it but the citrus flavour was too overpowering for me, if you were to make it I would avoid basting the prawns throughout cooking. - 15 Feb 2011


This is a wonderful recipe and so easy to make. I liked the orange, as I wouldn't have thought to add that myself. The chilli was just right. I'll make this for parties in the future, definately - 28 Jan 2009
