About this recipe: A light lemon flavour cuts through the richness of this delightful icing. Decorate with lemon zest, if desired.

  • 125g cream cheese
  • 60g butter, softened
  • 150g icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 350g icing sugar

  1. Beat cream cheese and butter in a bowl until combined. Beat in 150g icing sugar and lemon juice.
  2. Gradually beat in remaining icing sugar till icing is of spreading consistency. Spread icing on cooled cake, cupcakes or muffins.

Something else. Added the grated rind of a lemon and reduced the amount of lemon juice. I did need to add a little extra icing sugar to get the consistency right, even so. - 11 Mar 2010


A very simple and tasty icing. I'd recommend using fresh lemons for juice rather than bottled. If you prefer a zestier taste, add the zest of 1/2 to 1 lemon according to your own taste. Ensure you beat the mixture until the icing sugar is fully dissolved to avoid any grainy texture. - 17 Dec 2012


this is lovely ... I added a little extra icing sugar like the tweek suggested so i could pipe it ... and it was perfect I will make this again. - 04 Apr 2011
