Old Fashioned Pancakes

    20 min

This is a great recipe that I found in my Gran's recipe book. Judging from the weathered look of this recipe card, this was a family favourite.

    1. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in the centre and pour in the milk, egg and melted butter; mix until smooth.
    2. Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the pan, using approximately 4 tablespoons (60ml) for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

Made it more kid friendly. I swirled some nutella into the batter just before adding it to the pan. the kids adored it!  -  07 Jan 2011

Used different ingredients. Great recipe as-is, but I used soya milk instead to make it dairy free! yum!  -  07 Jan 2011

I had to whisk the batter with an elecric beater to stop the butter forming little blobs. Note: Avoid pouring warm/hot melted butter into the egg - pour it into the cold milk first or the egg will cook. Mod: I added a splash of vanilla essence and used 3 desert spoons of sugar instead of 1 tbsp, then sprinkled sultanas on them as soon as the batter was in the pan, they went down a storm.  -  20 Nov 2012
