About this recipe: Use this versatile base for tarts, pies and cheesecakes. I really like the hint of cinnamon, but feel free to omit it.

Serves: 8

  • 125g finely ground digestive biscuit crumbs
  • 5 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 85g butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:5min  ›  Ready in:15min

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 C / Gas mark 5.
  2. Mix biscuit crumbs, sugar, melted butter and cinnamon until well blended. Press mixture into a 20 or 23cm (8 or 9 in) tart tin or pie dish.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 7 minutes. Cool. If recipe calls for unbaked base, just chill for about 1 hour.

An excellent, tasty and above all easy to make base. Top marks! - 23 Apr 2011

Altered ingredient amounts. If you want to be a bit naughtier with this base, try using maryland chocolate chip cookies instead of the regular digestive biscuits. It's very tasty and just as easy to make. Although you only need three desert spoons of sugar in the mixture and you do not need any cinnamon. Best served without cooking in the oven from my point of view. - 14 Feb 2011
