Chocolate orange biscuits

    These two-tone biscuits are as pretty as they are delicious.

    • 30g cooking chocolate
    • 175g unsalted butter
    • 150g caster sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 200g plain flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 1 tablespoon orange zest

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas mark 4. In a microwave-safe dish, melt the cooking chocolate, stirring frequently until smooth. Set aside.
    2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Divide dough in two. Mix orange zest into one half, and melted chocolate into the other half. Use a bit of each mixture to form a ball about 2.5cm in diameter.
    3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until centre is set. Cool on wire racks.

    Altered ingredient amounts. I used 250g of plain flour, and 150g margarine. This helped the dough form and not become to runny.  -  08 Sep 2010


    Biscuits were delicious & easy to make. Adjusted flour & fat like an earlier reviewer suggested....husband & family loved them will definately be making these again!!  -  28 Apr 2016
