About this recipe: Anyone who likes poppy seeds will wnjoy these biscuits! Sprinkle some sugar on them while they are warm or make a runny white icing and sprinkle some additional poppy seeds on top.


Serves: 24 

  • 225g butter
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 250g plain flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 tablespoons demerara sugar for decoration

  1. Beat butter, sugar and egg yolks together in a bowl or in a stand mixer. Add flour, salt, poppy seeds and vanilla extract. Mix well. Chill dough for one hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 190 C / Gas mark 5. Grease 2 or 3 baking trays.
  3. Take a spoonful of dough at a time, roll in the palm of your hand to shape into small balls; place on baking tray with a little room between each one. Dip the bottom of a glass into the sugar and use this to press the biscuits into a flatter shape. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.

Altered ingredient amounts. When making the second batch I used flour under the juice glass instead of sugar, as the others were a bit sweet. I will also use less suger the next time I make these, as they were a little too sweet for me. Will maybe try some with almonds. - 02 Apr 2009


These biscuits, were so nice but a little sweet. I ended up with more than the 24 yield stated, which I think is a plus. Will definately make these again. - 02 Apr 2009
