This was my mother's recipe. She was in service in various large houses in Suffolk. I make it in the summer with fresh whipped cream with strawberries, in the winter with jam and cream, and for my husband with jam/fruit and whipped CremoVita (dairy-free cream)
This makes a lovely light cake, that looks just like the picture. I have now made it a number of times and it has worked every time, I have also added cocoa powder to make a chocolate version. My family all love it. - 15 Jun 2012

this recipe is great came out as light as a feather , filled it with strawberries and coated all over with vanilla buttercream gorgeous , didn't last long !! - 30 Jun 2014
