About this recipe: Great fun to make! You'll need a plastic funnel to help you make these.

Serves: 4 

  • 2 beaten egg
  • 350 ml milk
  • 280g plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • cooking oil
  • icing sugar or maple syrup (optional)

  1. Beat together the eggs in a mixing bowl and then add the milk.
  2. Stir together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Combine the flour and the egg mixture and beat together with an electric whisk until smooth.
  4. Heat cooking oil in a pan. Hold your finger over the bottom of the funnel and fill the funnel with the batter.
  5. When the pan is hot, remove your finger from the bottom of the funnel and let the batter drizzle out - move the funnel in a circular motion to create nice big spirals.
  6. Using a finger to cover the bottom opening of a funnel, pour a generous 120 ml of batter into the funnel. Remove finger and release batter into hot oil moving funnel in a circular motion to form spiral. Fry until golden brown on each side. Transfer on to kitchen paper.
  7. Serve hot, sprinkled with icing sugar or with a generous drizzle of maple syrup.
  8. Enjoy!
