Marie's easy slow cooker beef stew

    Moist and juicy beef stew made in a slow cooker with carrots, onion and potatoes.

    Serves: 8 

    • 1.8kg beef stewing steak
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 sachet dried French onion soup mix
    • 240ml water
    • 3 carrots, chopped
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
    • 1 stalk celery, chopped

    1. Take the beef and season with salt and pepper to taste. Brown on all sides in a large frying pan over high heat.
    2. Place in the slow cooker and add the soup mix, water, carrots, onion, potatoes and celery.
    3. Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours.

    Could i do this on a higher setting in half the time? I am new to the slow cooker so any guidence would be great. Thanks Tina  -  04 Jan 2011


    Beautiful! tender meat what a treat! instead of the soup mix i put 2 veg oxo mixed with just under a pint of water...then mixed 2 table spoons of beef gravy granules and some tyme..inside of a big yorkshire pudding  -  01 Nov 2011


    Something else. Dumplings are really easy to add. Make them from suet and self raising flour, or buy a packet mix. About 40 mins before the end make the dumplins and add them to the slow cooker and turn to high.  -  28 Apr 2009
