Ingredients
Serves: 8
- 50g Butter or Marg
- 50g Caster Sugar
- 1tbsp Golden syrup
- 110g Plain flour
- 15g Coco Powder
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- For the Filling
- 75g Icing Sugar
- 50g Butter
- 1tbsp Coco Powder
- 1tbsp Coffee essence or 1/2 tsp instant coffeee dissolved in tsp water

- Pre Heat the oven to 160c or gas mark 3
- Cream the fat and sugar togehter well, beat in the golden syrup
- Sift the flour, cocoa and baking soda together and work into the creamed mixture to make a stiff paste.
- Knead well then cut out the shapes
- Bake for 15 to 20 mins
- Leave to cool on wire rack
- Prepare Filling
- Sift the icing sugar
- Beat the fat until soft:add the sugar,coco and coffee
- Spread on the biscuit and sandwich together.

Dough took a bit of kneading to come together, and was a bit crumbly when I rolled it out - I might use a tiny bit of milk or water next time. Biscuits were absolutely gorgeous- really crisp and the filling was really chocolatey - my other half loved them. I ommitted the coffee and only cooked them for 12 minutes which was enough. Very delicious. Very cake like. Had to add more butter for the dough to come together. Next time I will roll them out thinner because they are very rich. - 27 Jun 2016
Not a good recipe, had to add milk and more flour for it all to come together, and in the end, it was more like a cake. - 24 Feb 2014
