Allspice Green Beans

    These soft and fragrant green beans are a great side to any meal.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 500g (1 lb) fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped
    • 110ml (4 fl oz) water
    • 1 dessertspoon ground allspice, such as Schwartz
    • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

    1. Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until lightly browned, stirring frequently. Mix in green beans and water, and bring to a boil. Stir in allspice, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer 20 minutes, until green beans are soft.

    This is a delicious way to dress up green beans. The first time you make this I would recommend going easy on the allspice, you can always add more before serving, as I did.  -  10 Sep 2003  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
