    Gratin Dauphinois is the perfect accompaniment to a roast or roast beef.

    Serves: 6 

    • 1 clove garlic, halved
    • 1kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
    • 600ml double cream
    • 300g freshly grated Comté cheese
    • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas mark 4.
    2. Rub the bottom and sides of the baking dish with the cut side of the garlic. Spread a layer of potatoes, then a layer of cream, then a layer of grated cheese, then salt and pepper in the baking dish. Continue with more layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cream and cheese.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.

    Used different ingredients. add some sliced onion  -  12 May 2009


    This deserves more than the previous 3 stars! It was delicious. I have made it twice now, once with the Comte cheese and once without. Both ways are delicious.  -  30 Apr 2015
