About this recipe: This recipe was made by my grandmother in the 30's.


Serves: 6 

  • 125g plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 apples, peeled & sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sultanas
  • 1 tablespoon chopped peel
  • 1 good tsp mixed spice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 180ml water

Prep:15min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Ready in:1hr 

  1. Mix plain flour, baking powder & pinch of salt in a mixing bowl & cut in 1 tablespoon of butter. Mix with enough milk to make scone-type dough (ie sticky).
  2. Roll out lightly (about 20x30cm / 8x12in). Spread apples, sultanas, peel & spice all over & roll up. Place in deep dish and pour over the hot sauce. Takes 3/4 - 1 hour in moderate oven.
  3. To make sauce: Put tablespoon butter, sugar & 180ml water in saucepan and bring to the boil.
