    About this recipe: A simple & tasty side dish. You can use any type of potato for this. I've used both baking and boiling potatoes for this. Use what ever you like.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 6-8 large potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2 centimetre-thick slices
    • 3 tbs butter
    • 10 oz grated cheddar cheese
    • 8 oz single cream
    • 1 tsp salt (use less if needed)
    • 1/2 tsp black pepper
    • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

    Method

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / gas mark 4.
    2. Par-boil the sliced potatoes for 3 minutes, drain and lay out to the side.
    3. Butter a medium sized baking dish.
    4. In a bowl, mix the cream together with the nutmeg, salt and pepper.
    5. Add a single layer of potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish and then sprinkle over some of the cheese. Continue layering potatoes and cheese, ending with a layer of potatoes.
    6. Pour the cream over the potatoes, then dot the butter over the top.
    7. Bake for 1 to 1 1/4 hours, or until the potatoes are tender and golden brown on top. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

    Easy to put together, didn't have cream (last minute dish) so used creme fraiche but wasn't full pot so definitely needs a full pot. Might add some milk next time too.  -  11 Mar 2017
