Macaroni Fish Pie

    Easy to make and tastes good too. Perfect for the nights when you come home late from work. Also very good reheated.

    Serves: 4 

    • 425g tuna (drained)
    • 30g butter
    • 1 tsp rounded plain flour
    • 300ml milk
    • pinch mustard powder
    • salt & pepper
    • 150g cooked Macaroni
    • 4 tbsp grated cheddar + extra for top
    • breadcrumbs

    1. Break up the fish in the bottom of a casserole dish.
    2. In a saucepan melt butter then add flour. Cook until bubbles start to reduce. Do not allow mixture to brown.
    3. Add mustard and milk to the saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer for 5 minutes watching closely.
    4. Take off heat and stir in cheese until melted. Add seasoning as required.
    5. Place pasta on top of the fish then cover with the white sauce. Sprinkle the extra cheese and breadcrumbs on top. Place the dish in a hot oven or under a grill until the cheese is golden.

    This could have been a really nice dish but the cheese sauce was way too thin. You need more flour. It was filling and easy.  -  06 Jun 2013
