About this recipe: This recipe is good for the health. Tip: To always have fresh ginger on hand for a recipe, you can freeze it either peeled or unpeeled.

Serves: 6 

  • 1 1/3 kg chicken drumsticks
  • 6 tbsp cooking oil, divided
  • 10 tablespoons finely sliced ginger
  • 4 tbsp sugar, divided
  • 125ml light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 250ml water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  1. Preheat a wok until very hot. Add 4 tbsp cooking oil, ginger and 2 tbsp sugar. When sugar starts to caramelise, add the remaining oil, soy sauce, the remaining sugar, salt and water. Stir and add the chicken drumsticks. Cover pan and let simmer for 30 to 40 minutes. Add the sesame oil and simmer for another minute. Remove from heat. Serve hot
