About this recipe:This is an old standby of my mother's. It was her Aunt Jane who gave her the recipe. I like to eat it plain, but I know others who claim its delicious with a little bit of butter or cream cheese on top. Great for tea time.
450ml (16 fl oz) semi-skimmed milk
100g (4 oz) caster sugar
165g (6 oz) treacle
170g (6 oz) wholemeal flour
200g (7 oz) bread flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
3 teaspoons baking powder

Butter and flour two 23x12cm (9x5 in) bread tins. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas mark 4.
In a small bowl combine milk, sugar and treacle.
Mix together wholemeal flour, bread flour, salt, bicarbonate of soda and baking powder. Add to milk mixture and mix well.
Pour mixture into bread pans. Bake for 45 minutes.
