Pretend Chocolate Cake

    They look like chocolate fairy cakes, but they don't actually have any chocolate in them!!! Go on - fool your friends with these.

    Serves: 12 

    • 100g self-raising flour
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 100g butter
    • 100g caster sugar
    • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
    • 1 tbsp milk (optional)
    • Brown food colouring (hard to find)

    1. Put paper cases in a 12-cup bun tin.
    2. Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Add the butter, eggs, food colouring and sugar. Beat together until well mixed. If the mixture is a little thick, mix in a little milk.
    3. Evenly divide the mixture between the cake cases. Bake for 20 minutes in a preheated oven (180c/Gas Mark 4) until just firm.
    4. Allow to cool slightly before putting them out on a wire rack to cool completely.
