A great easy family meal to throw in a slow cooker before a day out. When you come home just throw on some rice and beans or broccoli for a delicious family meal!

Very good and very simple dish, my wife loved it. I swapped the kidney beans for cannellini beans, added a bay leaf and some dried sage, pricked the sausages before browning - both to avoid bursting and to let some of the juice out into the sauce - and cooked it for 4 hours without the chili. I served it to my 9-year old for his supper at that point. I then added some crushed chilli flakes (red pepper flakes in the US) and cooked it for a further 2 1/2 hours, leaving the lid off the slow cooker for the last 1/2 hour. Superb.

Very easy to make, I used weight watcher sausages to lower the calories cooking them first in the oven for 20mins, letting them cool down before cutting them in half. Threw everything in the slow cooker dish including some fresh trimmed green beans, tinned new potatoes (all I had in cupboard), a scotch bonnet diced red chilli & seeds (I like spicy food) diced celery stalks, tsp dried oregano and 2 pints (or enough to cover ingredients) of beef Oxo then put dish in fridge. Took out next morning placed dish in my slow cooker on Low and left for 12hrs whilst at work - perfect when we got home, just plate up in a nice stew bowl & it made several portions for the rest of the week!
