Easy Steak and Kidney pie

About this recipe: This recipe is aimed at those looking for a quick but delicious pie recipe.

Serves: 6 

  • 1 pack of Steak & Kidney (available at most supermarkets and very cheap)
  • Fresh Thyme
  • Gravy Granuals
  • 1 Pack ready to roll Puff Pastry
  • Any type of vegetables (chopped)

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min 

  1. Put Steak, Kidney, fresh thyme (I use quite alot as i love the taste, but add as much or as little as you like) and any chopped vegetables to a pan.
  2. Season, cover with water and bring to the boil.
  3. Simmer for 20 mins or until steak is cooked.
  4. Add gravy granuals to the pan (the pan with steak etc). to make a gravy sauce for your pie.
  5. Pour mixture into a pie tin.
  6. Roll out puff pastry and cover the steak mixture/top of the pie tin. Cut off the excess pastry using a knife.
  7. Bake in preheated oven gas mark 5 for approx. 15 mins or until puff pastry has risen and golden.
  8. Enjoy!

I must admit I was a little dubious at first about the length of time it takes to make this, because it seemed so quick, but I'd bought reduced steak and Kidney which needed to be cooked and I didn't have much time, so I went with it. Well, I needn't have worried! I don't think I'll ever make steak and kidney pie the old way again! It was delicious and quick and the children loved it!! Thank you so much for this fabulous recipe which will become a firm favourite in our house I'm sure! - 08 Aug 2014
