Chocolate and banana panini

    10 min

Stale bread turns into a delectable treat. Kids will love this after school (and you will too!). Try using Nutella if you don't have plain chocolate to hand.

    1. Melt the butter in a frying pan, add a pinch of cinnamon and banana. Cook the banana until it becomes coloured, but still firm. Reserve.
    2. Layer the banana and chocolate on one piece of bread. Close with the other piece, spread a bit of butter on the outside, and griddle in a panini press until golden. Serve hot.

Something else. I used wholemeal bread and also skipped the butter. I used Nutella only b/c that's what I had in the cupboard - I'd try reg chocolate in the future, though. I just essentially made a banana and nutella sandwich, sprinkled with cinnamon, and then pan-fried it with a heavy saucepan placed on top (to mimic the panini press that I don't have!). Don't skip the cinnamon - it really makes this delicious, even though you can't really pinpoint the cinnamon flavour when you're devouring it !  -  30 Nov 2009

Absolutely delicious! We've all had banana and chocolate crepes; I think this may be better! I took a few shortcuts, but all in all this is a fab snack idea (or naughty breakfast?) and I'll definitely make again!  -  30 Nov 2009
