About this recipe: I found this recipe in my Aunt's recipe box after she died. It's a lovely cake and reminds me of her every time I bake it

Serves: 8 

  • 50g/2 oz Sifted Cocoa
  • 6 tbsp boiling water
  • 3 eggs
  • 120 ml/4 fl oz milk
  • 175g/6 oz SR Flour
  • 1 rounded tsp baking soda
  • 100g/ 4 oz soft margarine
  • 275g/ 10 oz caster sugar

Prep:15min  ›  Extra time:30min  ›  Ready in:45min 

  1. Preheat oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 (shelves in middle of oven). 2 x 8" tins greased and lined.
  2. Mix cocoa with boiling water
  3. Put remaining ingredients in a processor, adding cocoa paste. Process until a thick paste (looks quite runny!). Put in tins.
  4. Bake for 25 - 30 mins, leave to cool in tins.
  5. When cold fill with butter cream and ad chocolate topping if you like.

Great recipe, made a perfect cake, bought a luxury chocolate sauce and divided the mix into 2 tins, filled with chocolate butter cream. Excellent guideline recipe. - 04 May 2013
