    About this recipe: This is a very simple recipe for basic scones. You can customise them by adding dried fruit.

    Serves: 8 

    • 375g plain flour
    • 100g caster sugar
    • 5 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 170g butter
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 225ml milk

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:25min 

    1. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Lightly grease a baking tray.
    2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Rub in butter. Mix the egg and milk in a small bowl, and stir into flour mixture until moistened.
    3. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead briefly. Roll dough out into a 2cm thick round. Cut into 8 wedges, and place on the prepared baking tray.
    4. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

    far too much milk is used in this and the mix is very sloppy. I would suggest only 5 fl and this should then make a good mix. My first attempt was a shambles and ended up in the bin - 30 Apr 2011


    way 2 much milk ... added more flour 2 mix ... currently in oven ... fingers crossed - 22 Apr 2011


    cooked for 15 mins now ... still look raw ... and not held their shape ... was making for a charity coffee morning ... now have 2 start again ... can't sell them !!! - 22 Apr 2011
